Robot Security Guards

Home security these days is so boring. A thief breaks into your home, the alarm goes off, perp runs off as the police show up. I don’t know about you but I want the fear of all things holy put into anyone trying to break into my home. Like giant robot security guards with lasers or something.

Well if you think like I do today’s your lucky day (almost). With robots entering virtually every industry, home security is a logical next step (and perhaps the most fun) We don’t have Robocop yet but these security robots are a nice start.

Ipatrol Riley

Let start with one you can actually buy already and it won’t break the bank. Meet Ipatrol’s Riley, a tiny mobile security robot that patrols your home. If Riley detects anything, it will send you a notification through their app. It also includes a microphone and speakers built in so you can yell at any soon to be doomed intruders. When it’s not scaring unwanted guests, it’s also great for monitoring pets and small children. You can even buy it on Amazon for $144.99

Guardbot

Okay now for something that will really make a huge statement to anyone who dares step foot on your property. The GuardBot is basically a big rolling surveillance robot. They range from 5-7 feet in diameter and will follow your unfortunate intruder in any terrain whether it be sand, heavy snow or even water. That’s right, these fearsome robots can even swim. According to the Guardbot website, they can be remotely controlled, or you can program it to patrol a set route of waypoints along perimeters, buildings, and fields. The robot’s two cameras can be positioned independently in order to monitor conditions or check for intruders.

Guardbots aren’t just about security and surveillance. With their customizability and ability to add multiple cameras, Guardbots would be perfect for broadcasting sporting events. Can you imagine a GuardBot roving all over an NFL game or a FIFA World Cup matchup? It would really take you right into the middle of the action. Guardbots would also be perfect for covering the news where perhaps it is too dangerous for a human to venture like a wildfire or warzone.

If you want a Guardbot, it won’t be cheap as they can cost up to $100,000. As the technology gets more popular and demand increases, the prices should come down a bit.

Knightscope

So perhaps you own a business, run a school or just have a lot of money and want something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Knightscope has created a fleet of autonomous mobile security robots that go up in size to six feet tall and over 400 pounds. Knightscope has a few different models to choose from including the K1, K3, K5, and soon to be released K7. The K3 is specialized for patrolling the indoor of malls and airports while the K5 is built for outdoor spaces like parking lots and campuses. The K7 will be focused on more rugged, multi-terrain areas like farms and power utility substations.

The models range in ability such as recognizing faces, weapons, and cars. If the entity is on the blacklist, it will then send an alert. These robots can even protect your data and security systems from hackers by identifying rogue routers, individual smartphones, and even IP addresses.

These robots store a large amount of data and can transmit live video and audio information via wifi or cellular. Knightscope already counts Microsoft and NBC as clients and its amazing robots are appearing in more and more places.
