Robot Cat MarsCat Can Recognize Faces and Voices

So you want a cat, but maybe you are allergic or don’t have enough time to properly care for it. Well, you may soon be in luck.

Meet MarsCat. It comes from Shenzhen, China-based Elephant Robotics and they are claiming it’s the “world’s first bionic pet cat”.  The robot pet acts just like it’s real-life counterpart. MarsCat is fully responsive and uses cameras, sensors, and a microphone to navigate the world around it.

The robot can hear voices, feel touch, play and even recognize faces. Like a real cat, it walks, runs, sleeps, sits, stretches, bites nails, kneads, and has a wide variety of meows depending on the mood its in. The best part is that MarsCat even buries litter but won’t produce any waste.

Robot Cat’s Personality Changes

Advanced image recognition allows the robot cat to identify faces and toys. Meaning it will react differently to each person and will adjust it’s playing based on the type of toy. The bot’s personality will change depending on how a person pets and interacts with it. MarsCat has 6 characters which can be changed. She may be enthusiastic or aloof, energetic or lazy, social or shy.

“MarsCat is built to allow you to shape its personalities. More interactions with MarsCat will impel it to be more close to you. More conversations with MarsCat will impel it to meow to you often. Every time you touch it, talk to it or even let it see you, will change its personality,” said the company.

The company currently has a Kickstarter going. Packages include toys along with the option to customize your pet’s look. They plan to start shipping MarsCat in March.
