Meet Outdoor Autonomous Security Robot ROAMEO

We’ve seen robots delivering food, working in grocery stores, and even making smoothies. One industry that they may soon be commonplace is the 220 billion dollar security industry. The industry is expected to double in size by 2025 and robots are sure to play a major part. One company has recently announced a new mobile solution that is already getting interest from Fortune 500 companies.

Short for Rugged Observation Assistance Mobile Electronic Officer, ROAMEO is a rugged outdoor security robot that can patrol all types of environments. It comes from Nevada based Robotic Assistance Devices (RAD). The company, a subsidiary of Artificial Intelligence Technology Solutions, specializes in all types of autonomous security robots.

ROAMEO is built to patrol the outdoors day and night in all types of weather and terrain. It can go up to 10 mph with a climbing ability of 25 degrees and can go over obstacles up to 8 inches if need be. ROAMEO can operate for 20 hours before it needs to be recharged.

ROAMEO Already Getting Interest from Fortune 500 Companies

RAD feels it’s security robots are perfect for places like corporate parks, government facilities, transportation hubs, schools, and hospitals. The company’s current robots include a stationary security tower named Scot along with Wally a wall-mounted unit. ROAMEO gives the company a more mobile option that can be effective in all types of environments. RAD’s robots are tied into and monitored by the company’s RADCloud software platform.

“The release of SCOT in 2018 fueled our ability to deliver the same amazing RAD functionality via a mobile vehicle,” said Steve Reinharz, President and CEO of RAD. “ROAMEO is the realization of RAD’s goals to deliver next-generation security and concierge solutions to clients large and small.”

According to the company, they circulated a request for interest in the form of a shortlist on July 31. They received immediate interest from several Fortune 500 companies. They expect to roll out 20 ROAMEO units once development is complete.

RAD’s robots are available to be rented on a monthly basis. Expected cost of ROAMEO is $4,200 per month with each unit having a useful life of 5 years.
